Land Ho! Black Bloc.

The G20/G8 is over and what a mess Toronto was left in. On Saturday, a terrorist group known as the Black Bloc terrorized the streets of Toronto, destroying local businesses, lighting police cars on fire, and vandalizing everything else in sight. Throughout most of the day, Toronto police seemed almost nonexistent amongst the riot. It was as though they allowed these morons to take over our city. People were enraged with their inaction.

The following day, the police arrested over 700 rioters and protesters. They took them to the makeshift prison in an old Toronto film studio where they were incarcerated for hours. The media interviewed some of the detainees, who bitched and whined that they only got cheese sandwiches and three bottles of water.

I don't know who these people think they are, nor what they believe they are entitled to. They destroyed my city, were arrested, and expected to go to the Royal York?
Interestingly enough, today in the news we learn that an investigation has been launched into the alleged abuse of power used by the police in the situation. Many people arrested were not actually apart of the riots. Some were simply on their way to work and happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Yet, as far as I am concerned, anyone who was stupid enough to venture amongst the chaos these two days yielded are NOT innocent. Stupid attracts stupid.

Don't get me wrong though. I do believe in peaceful protests and don't think it's fair to condemn freedom of speech. I do believe there needs to be considerable organization amongst protesters to protect their freedom of speech in the event something like this happens again.

It's mind boggling. One minute, people are angry for the inaction of the police. When the police take action, people get pissed off. How can they win? At any rate, this "Black Bloc" ought to have each one of it's undereducated, unkempt, and primitive members catapulted somewhere into the Pacific ocean. Wouldn't that be fun?! :)
