Remind me, why are they making this again...?

I was just reading on hollywoodlife.com that the race for the actress to be the lead for the role of Lisbeth from the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is getting fierce. The 2 main runners-up are Ellen Page and Kristen Stewart. I guess they would both have their pros and cons. Ellen Page is too cute for the part and Kristen Stewart..... well Kristen Stewart is Bella..... that should explain enough as to why she shouldn't get it. But above all I'm really NOT understanding why the hell are they redoing this movie? They JUST made the Swedish one which was, in my opinion (please keep reading for my review of it), quite good. So why are Americans trying to remake a movie that was already good?? I'm very very perplexed. I mean... the story is good but it's not THAT good that they need to waste money for 2 movies on it.
Can someone explain ....?
