Anyone who knows me knows that 1) I like to waste money on stupid shit, and 2) Most of that stupid shit involves new makeup products.
I've been trying to save money since my VISA bill is astronomical and no matter how much I try it always seems to stay the same. Personal money matters aside, the point of this post is that I've been trying to find cheaper versions of products that I already love.
I've always been a bit skeptical of Avon products, mostly because you can't see them in person and really, how the hell are you supposed to know if the makeup colours will work with your skin. However, I've kinda been suckered in when it comes to their ummm "contemporary" (???) line Mark. Mark Cosmetics is also responsible for my appreciation of Lauren Conrad (their spokesperson, soon to be replaced by Ashley Green, hmmmm...), who used to annoy me immensely when she was on the Hills.
Over the past year I've bought simple things from Mark, like rings and purses. Nothing amazing, but reasonably priced and they wear pretty well. This past week. however, I bought cosmetics for the first time.
I've been eyeing their blushes for quite sometime, and finally caved and spent the $8 to buy one. That price is amazing actually if anyone is wondering. In fact the reason why I was so curious to buy the product is because the pictures of Mark's "After Glo" looked remarkably similar to NARS' "Orgasm" in the catalogue.
For anyone not familiar with NARS products, I will tell you this, they are amazing! Particularly their blushes, bronzers and multiple sticks. If you are familiar with NARS then I don't need to tell you that their products are NOT cheap! Anyhow, EVERY makeup person Ive spoken with loves NARS' Orgasm because apparently the colour really compliments every skin tone.
So to make a long story even longer, I bought Mark's After Glo hoping it would be a replacement for Orgasm. When the blush came I was pleasantly surprised, the colours are very similar (the photo here doesn't really do either colour justice and they were clearly taken in different light). The first application of After Glo wasn't really great I must admit, but that could be my own fault. I love blush and tend to pack it on, and this blush actually has a very rich pigmentation so goes on VERY bright after first. Normally with blush I will do a couple of applications and with After Glo I actually needed to take some off. Since then I have learned not to get so much colour and it applies much better now.
My only complaint is that the blush does not come in a case, you must purchase that separately. While I get the point of this (1. that explains why it's only $8 and, 2. if you buy a case they are reusable, thus saving the world), I really would like somewhere proper to store my product in.
Overall, the product is pretty good. I would recommend it if Orgasm is your colour but you don't want to spend the money. However, After Glo is slightly more chalky and really NARS does make the best product so if you swear by Orgasm then nothing can really compare.
And that's what I think!
