Twilight = N SYNC

Just read a interesting theory on Pop Eater today comparing the craze that are Twi-hards to all those boy band lovers from days past. Now before I go on here I will preface with the fact that I know many people still have deep love for the boy bands of our childhood (dear dear Rita deserves a reward for this), and I will say that I am slightly hypocritical in that, while I really despise Twilight, I'm just as guilty of reading the books and watching the movies. (Just an FYI though, I read Twilight and hated it but already bought the rest thinking I would love them so I HAD to read them, and I watch the movies purely for a laugh).

For anyone with any sort of taste, this article will definitely please you. Apparently, industry insiders are anticipating that no one will give a shit about Twilight in 5 years.
"The 'Twilight' saga of films are like a cheap soap opera... Yes, we are all jealous about the amount of money they are making, but you will find no one in the industry who is jealous of the quality of the filmmaking, acting or script. Sixty-five percent of its audience is young females who will abandon 'Twilight' in a few years just like they are now ashamed to admit they listened to *NSYNC.

I actually never thought of this theory before and I can see how it could end up being true. How many of us are passionate about things we loved when we were 15. The only thing that frightens me is that while 65% of the audience are young females, there is another portion of the audience who is just crazy. Have you all seen 56 year old Linda Moore's bedroom??

God knows how much money I spent on all things Backstreet Boys when I was younger. I spent so much of my parents money I felt guilty when I stopped liking them. But the farce that was my Backstreet Boys love got me into even bigger shite. I will never forget when me and my family went to Italy in the summer of '99 and my mothers cousin owned a music store. As a gift he gave me Backstreet Boys posters, CDs, and a t-shirt. This stuff wasn't cheap, the CDs alone were probably 25 Euros and I walked away with all this useless stuff.

This is what upsets me most about the corporation that is Stephenie Meyer's Twilight. When I paid THOUSANDS of dollars for BSB gear, at least I knew I was getting some sort of quality out of it. Seeing them in concert I knew I was going to get a show, there would be flying and pyrotechnics, dancing and gyrating - I knew I would be entertained. Can you honestly say the same for the Twilight Saga?

I'm all for children reading in general. Most kids under 17 probably couldn't put together a proper sentence, so any form of non-text content is food for the brain (NB. do NOT criticize my writing abilities, since this blog is a hobby not an English paper). Really though, how many of you can really say Twilight deserves to be as revered as it is. The novels are repetitive and simplistic; the characters are one dimensional and often useless and underused; and the content has been done OVER and OVER again! Yet these books were read... over 85 million books sold... Stephenie Meyer's is a multi-millionaire and will probably earn much, much more than that from future royalties.

While I detest Stephenie Meyer - she seems way to overconfident in her abilities - I don't blame her for most of the Twi-hard craze. We all know that the films are the money-makers of the franchise. The films have created stars out of people who would rather not be; questionably talented secondary actors who are massive attention seekers; but most of all it created the super duper crazy Twi-hard fans who feel the need to jump Robert Pattinson.

Can this craziness even be justified? Have you people seen these movies? They are distasterous and laughable. The acting is worse than high school production, the special affects could be achieved by any amateur, and the WIGS! OH DEAR GOD THE WIGS!

So from all the money that the Twilight franchise has made, why is it that the production value hasn't improved at all? Where is all the money going? To Robert Pattinson's security team? Taylor Lautner's steriods? Kristen Stewart's emo lessons?

Are the movies bad on purpose, in a we're-so-indie-and-we-are-too-hipster-to-be-in-a-big-movie? If Twilight does equal N SYNC will people really admit their shame in a few years?

I will never understand how the producers of Twilight get away with this. How no one is demanding better quality. How no one realizes they are being cheated. How no one realizes the content they are watching is damn cheap. How no one realizes Robert Pattinson looks like a foot!

Come on people! We deserve more for our money!

That's my opinion.
